PROJECT TITLE: EXPLORING OPPORTUNITY & CHALLENGES TO OPERATIONALIZE FAMILY FRIENDLY POLICIES IN INDIA’S APPAREL & TEXTILE VALUE CHAIN – A SCOPING STUDY
PROJECT TIMELINE – JUNE 2020 – FEB 2021
Children are the citizens of tomorrow and a nation's future. They are vital for the future development of a society. However, a large population of children in India, especially girls, are unable to receive early childhood care and denied access to fundamental child rights, including healthcare, education and found to be most susceptible to exploitation. Risks such as these are higher in low-income households and industries employing a large unskilled and semi-skilled workforces, such as the apparel and textile sector, which is the second-largest employer in the country, facing various social sustainability issues. With existing challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic amplified the problems, bringing in a sense of urgency to address them. Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) consider this critical to propel the agenda of inclusive and sustainable businesses. CRB believes that adoption of family-friendly policies will make a positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of workers and help enterprises to reduce supply chain risks such as supply disruptions critical to business continuity, particularly in a postCOVID19 scenario. It will also help make child rights issues front and centre in the postCOVID19 recovery.
The project will investigate the plausibility of implementing family-friendly policies in various tier of apparel & textile supply chains. It will also explore relationship dynamics between brands, suppliers, subcontractors, and agents to achieve the social sustainability guidelines, cost implications, cost structure, and ecosystem partners, and stakeholders for implementing the policies.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates to work as a project officer in this project.
Based in New Delhi and reporting to the Programme Manager, the Project Officer will identify and engage with apparel and textile stakeholders in select clusters of India including fieldwork; be part of the project implementation team and ensure timely implementation and delivery; communicate and represent the project in discussions with external stakeholders and be responsible for documentation and writing of brief, articles, reports related to the project and broadly to sustainability/SDGs.
